Level 1 of AISI comprehensive Arabic language programme. The programme incorporates modern
and classical Arabic as well as grammar. It is one of the most comprehensive coverages of classical
Arabic and grammar available. Students who are looking for serious and focussed study of Arabic in
order to access the language of the Quran and Hadith should seriously consider completing the
whole programme.
Level 1 Arabic is the first of the courses and it incorporates an excellent introduction to the basics of
the Arabic Language.
This level is intended for beginners with very little understanding of the Arabic language. However,
the student will need to be able to read the Qur’an as this is not the ‘First Step to Qur’an’ course. In
this course students will learn vocabulary in addition to reading, writing and speaking drills. This
course is based on the popular Al ‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk’ which is used all over the Arab world to
teach non-native speakers the Arabic language, starter book followed by chapters 1 to 10 of the
Madinah Book 1.
You must be able to read the Qur'an fluently to be able to study this course and complete a basic module on writing through self-study which we will provide. You will need to commit to 3 hours of contact time per week and at least a further 3 hours of personal study. Students who cannot read or write Arabic should join the Access to Arabic &
The final examination consisting of a written paper and oral exam takes place on week 12. Your final mark determines if you will be able to continue on to the next level. The pass mark for this course is 50%.
This course is taught over a 3 month period. Each week’s lesson consists of 3 hours class time.
Books will be provided for this course, Al Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk (Arabic Between Your Hands) Students Book 1/2 . You should also bring a notepad and pen to take notes.
For three hours of class work you will need to do at least 2 hour of homework and revision each week. It is recommended that you also develop a vocabulary list and a notebook for phrases and commonly used statements to aid your memorization.
You will receive an in-house certificate recognizing your achievement in this course.
After studying this course you will be confident enough to continue your study in this field and can move onto Arabic Language Level 2.

Level 2 Arabic is the second course in the programme. It continues on from Level 1and introduces more grammar topics and more complex and varied vocabulary.
Level 2 can be studied over 12 weeks with 1 session per week.
At level 2, the topics below will be covered in conjunction with selected chapters from books such as al-Arabia Baina Yadyk and tailor made worksheets to help students apply their knowledge of the grammar concepts and develop a broad vocabulary:
This level is for students who have completed Arabic Level 1 or equivalent, are able to understand basic Arabic instructions and are familiar with writing Arabic. Students will learn vocabulary, memorise some Qur’anic Ayaat (verses) and short Ahadith. In addition to reading, writing and speaking drills students will be introduced to basic grammar. In this course students are expected to complete the full Madinah Book 1 from chapters 11 to 23.
This level is for students who have completed Arabic Level 1 or equivalent, are able to understand basic Arabic instructions and are familiar with a basic level of Arabic grammar. Students will be required to memorise a set number of vocabulary, verbs, Ahadith, Qur’anic Ayaat, Du’as and attempt basic Arabic-English and English-Arabic translation. A major
This level is for students who have completed all contents in the Arabic Language Madinah Book 2 Part 1 (first 15 chapters) or equivalent. This part of the course will be continuing from chapter 16 of Madinah Book 2 and completing the full book by the end of the term.
This is an Arabic course covering the classical text in Arabic grammar: Al Aajaroomiyyah by Ibn Aajaroom (d.723h). Al Aajaroomiyyah, is the quintessence of Arabic grammar, its status is largely unchallenged as an excellent introduction to this first field of learning, which every scholar must master before delving into other Arabic literature. Hence, we find much attention has been paid to it amongst Arab scholars over a considerable period of time. Up until now, this text is taught across the world in traditional institutions and is recognised as a key stepping stone to studying detailed grammar. This course is not designed for beginners, but for students who have already studied at least Arabic Level 2 or equivalent and are ready to tackle grammar in an intensive way. It is hoped by the end of the course that the student will be able to understand the basics of grammar and thus be able to deal with more advanced texts in grammar and literature
At this level students who have completed their study of Madinah Book 2 or equivalent and have gained a firm grasp of the rudiments of the Arabic language will complete their study of the advanced rules of Nahu (grammar) and Sarf (morphology) and expand their vocabulary immensely. Students will also learn how to use an Arabic-English dictionary effectively and become proficient in translating texts accurately. This course will cover the first half of Madinah Book 3 and the book will be completed in part 2 of the course

This course is designed for those who have completed the Madinah Books and all the Spoken Arabic parts 1-3 (up to Al ‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk Book 2) or equivalent and are ready to immerse themselves in the Arabic language and begin applying their language skills in classes delivered fully in Arabic. Using Book 3 of the popular Al ‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk series, students are expected to converse with the teacher and other students completely in Arabic and learn in excess of 1000 words to be added to their vocabulary. Future levels will focus on other subjects such as Arabic literature and poetry with all levels gradually increasing in difficulty. In Part 1 the first half of book 3 will be studied covering various topics and the Book will be completed in Part 2.
